Freudenberg wins 2018 Innovation Award in Shanghai

micronAir fuel cell filter type N recognized for its contribution to future mobility

Freudenberg Filtration Technologies was proud to win the prestigious Automotive Technology Innovation Award 2018, which was presented at the International Automotive Congress in Shanghai. The jury commended the outstanding innovative potential of our micronAir fuel cell filter type N, which is incorporated into the power system of fuel cell vehicles.

Accepting the award on behalf of the Freudenberg China Automotive Filtration Division, Regional Director China Tim Wei commented: “We are delighted to see our fuel cell filter being honored by the committee. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles will play a vital role in the future of transportation and protecting the power source is essential in gaining acceptance for this technology.”

Enabling future drive technologies

Today, we are on the brink of a fundamental shift in driving technologies towards sustainable and eco-friendly solutions. Although no single drive concept is going to meet all needs, the impressive driving range of fuel cell vehicles means they are sure to play an important role in the future of transportation. However, the technology is sensitive to salts, nitrous oxides and sulfur or ammonia compounds, which can damage the fuel cell stack.  Hence, Freudenberg worked hard to develop micronAir fuel cell filters that are uniquely designed to prevent such particles and gases from entering the drive via the intake air.

In making the award, the jury acknowledged the huge potential of the micronAir fuel cell filter type N in terms of future automotive technologies. The filter significantly improves ammonia protection, hazardous gas absorption and particulate filtration efficiency. Its long lifespan and effective protection of the fuel cell will translate into reduced ownership costs, benefitting customers and the environment at the same time.
